BATSON Harry B. Batson, 62, of Grafton, died Friday Morning (July 31, 1959) on a train while en route to a Bethesda, Md. Hospital. He had been in ill health for two weeks and in serious condition for two days. He had been city manager of Grafton since 1956. Prior to his appointment to the Grafton position, he had been employed by the State Road Commission and was a former sheriff of Taylor County. He was also assessor of Taylor county having served two terms. Mr. Batson was born at Flemington on Nov. 21, 1896, a son of the late Edward Batson and the late Amanda Victoria Lough Batson Gates. He was the step-son of the late W. T. Gates. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bertha Ellen Batson, two daughters, Mrs. Jean Post of Cherry Point, N. C., and Miss Margaret Batson of Washington, D. C.; two half-brothers, G. L. Gates with the U. S. Air Force in Florida, and Thomas J. Gates of Flemington; one half-sister, Mrs. Ruth Hoffman of LaMesa, Calif.; and one aunt, Mrs. Ingaby Cole of Philippi. Mr. Batson was a member of the Methodist Church, a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge of Grafton and the Forty and Eight, Taylor County Voiture. He was also a charter member of the Grafton Barrocks Veterans of World War I.
