Obituary for RICHARD (DICK) KESLING

Ex-'U' star Kesling dies of heart attack

FAIRMONT -- Richard (Dick) Kesling, a member of West Virginia University's 1942
National Invitation Tournament championship basketball team, died unexpectedly
at his home here Wednesday night (January 5, 1972).

Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.

He was 50 years old.

Kesling received his degree from WVU in 1942 and shortly afterward joined the
Owens-Illinois Glass Co. here. He was assistant personnel director for the firm.

He went to WVU from Shinnston, where he starred in high school athletics.

Kesling played a forward position for the Mountaineers and was particularly
instrumental in their stunning upset of Long Island U. in the first round of the
1942 NIT.

Survivors include his wife, a son in Allentown, Pa., and a daughter in New Orleans.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete Wednesday night.
