Biographical Sketches of Hancock County: Philip Freshwater: farmer, born in Brooke County, West Virginia, June 7, 1810; he was raised a farmer; receiving a limited education in the common schools of those days. In September, 1830, was united in the bonds of matrimony to Miss Ellen Archer. On the following October, they settled on the farm upon which they are living, in Butler District, Hancock County, West Virginia; his wife died on the 12th of March, 1864; has been very successful as a farmer.
