We bow submissively to God's will, knowing "He doeth all things well." Mr. Walkup was twice married, his fisrt wife being Virginia Correll, to this union six children were born, four of whom are left to mourn his death - Mrs. J. W. Beard, Mrs. E. F. Callison, J. J. and P. J. Walkup. His second wife was Miss Sallie Williams, who survives him. He was a friend to the friendless, a father to the fatherless, and loved by all who knew him, but words are vain, his life spoke for itself in his church and community. We loved him, yes, we loved him. But he has gone above, Where sorrow never enters, But all is peace and love. We loved him, oh, we loved him, But our Savior loved him more, So He gently called him To yonder shining shore. We loved him, oh, we loved him, Bur our love would not detain The spirit's silent messenger, Nor call him back again. N.E.B. Submitted by G. W. Dotson, Feb. 1999 ************************************************************** OBIT: In Loving Remembrance. Mrs. Phoebe Wright was born in Alleghany County, VA, Nov. 22, 1832, and died Nov. 18, 1915, age eighty-two years, 11 months and 26 days. "Grandma" (as she was affectionately called) was twice married. Her maiden name was Terry, and she was first married to John S. Arritt, who preceded her to the grave about 52 years ago. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Virginia A. Tucker, (who died about fifteen years ago), Moses W., of Monroe County, Dan F. of Alleghany County, VA; John L. of Ronceverte. Her second, Moses G. Wright, died 3/18/1893, and to this union five children were born: Andrew T., of near Bethel, with whom she made her home and where she died; Henry, who died in infancy; Joseph O., and Mrs. Sallie C. Lipps, of Lewisburg. "Grandma" had been a member of the Missionary Baptist church since 1885, and died praising the name of her Redeemer. Beside her children and grandchildren, she leaves a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Tucker, of Alleghany, VA, who is eighty-five years old, and a brother, Jacob O. Terry, of Minnesota, aged eighty-one years. "Grandma" Wright had been in feeble health about two years, and had been bedfast about three months, death resulting from the infirmities of old age. She has lived in the community where she died since December 1892, and was liked by all who knew her, and she always visited the sick that were within her reach. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ben Harrop, and her body was laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery Saturday, Nov. 20th there to await the coming of the Saviour to make up His jewels.
