WATCHMAN, Vol. 27, Num. 2; Thursday, Feb. 9, 1899: "On Jan. 23d., 1899, at his home near Asbury, Greenbrier county, Mr. Joseph PIERCY, aged 83 years." ************************************************************************** From New Era newspaper of Warren County, TN, March, 1869: "Elisha PEPPER: born Greenbrier Co., VA A.D. 1777 making him 92 years old. Father killed by Indians when he was a boy & mother died about same time, leaving him an orphan. Taken by some relatives to Boon or Rock Station KY in which State he lived until 1806 when in company with Johnny Campbell & others moved to Alexandria, DeKalb County, in this State. Mr. Peppers married in Alexandria in 1806 & in the fall or winter moved to this county & settled upon the place where he recently died. Not in good health for 40 years & 12 years on crutches." [NOTE: Elisha Pepper II was born in March of 1777 in Greenbriar Co., West VA to Elisha Pepper I. His mother may have been a BUTCHER. Believe name may connect to one John PIPER on Greenbriar census. (March 1998) ************************************************************************** From The GREENBRIER INDEPENDENT, May 1, 1958, the Old Timers Column: "Nannie (Patterson) Farren, died April 27, 1908, at age 42, at Falling Springs, WV. She was the wife of John C. Farren." Submitted by Jeanne Webb Gadd, (April 1998). ************************************************************************** OBIT: Mrs. Alice Persinger: Alice Brady Persinger, 49, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at her home, 124 Lexington Avenue. She was the wife of Charles Edward Persinger. Mrs. Persinger was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Waynesboro, a daughter of Mrs. Alma Brady Fisher of Covington and the late Thomas Ralph Brady. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Chruch and the Floyd Rogers Chapter of the church. She was a former member of the Covington Woman's Club, and a past president of the Edgemont School Parent Teacher Association. She was a former editor of the Woman's Page of the Covington Virginian. After leaving the Virignian she was a member of the editorial staff of the Petersburg Progress in Hopewell. Surviving other than her husband and mother, are two sons, Carl S. (Sammy) Persinger and Brad Alan Persinger, both of Covington and a daughter Mrs. Richard P. (Edwina) Stadter, of Denver, C0. Also, one sister, Mrs. James R. (Lettie) Weikle of Alderson, WV and a brother, Carl T. Brady, Covington. Two grandsons also survive. Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are as yet incomplete.
