He and his wife had been visiting some of his old friends and neighbors for a few days and was not permitted to return to his home which has recently been with Mr. James J. It was during this residence in Augusta that the civil war began and he enlisted and was a member of Capt. Morris' company of Edgar's Battalion. The writer of this sketch has heard him spoken of as a brave soldier. As a man he was of kindly and sympathetic bearing among his fellwo men, quiet and not a man of many words but still loved the company of others. He was a member of Salem Church and before the stroke that occasioned his death had expressed himself as expecting the summons and as ready when it should come. In his death he was blessed, for he passed away with very little, if any suffering. He leaves an aged wife and five living children to mourn his departure, two sons, J. T. and J. W. Honaker and three daughters, Mrs. H. B. Toothman, Mrs. A. J. Morgan and Mrs. J. J. Green, all residents of the county. From the Greenbrier Independent, V41-N50, 13 June 1907. Also: F. He had been in bad health for some time and of late had frequently shown signs of dementia. the day before his death, it is said, he had asked what was the easiest way to die, but it was not suspected that he harbored the intention of self destruction. On Tuesday morning he went to his barn, and with a pocket knife, cut his throat from ear to ear. A little while later his dead body was found in a pool of blood. Mr. Honaker was a quiet, industrious and useful citizen and was about 70 years of age. He had been for some time a member of the Dunkard Church. Honaker, who resides in Summers County, while the other is a railroad man. He was a brother of Peter B. Honaker who resides near Union.
