Trps. Med Det. 27th Div. Hdqs Born on 23 Jan 1919 in Cobb, Iowa Co., Wi. Died on 19 Sep 1994 in Dodgeville, Iowa Co., Wi. Son of John Joseph and Annie Catherine (McDERMOTT) McMAHAN Married 07 Dec 1947 at St. Patricks in Madison, Dane Co., Wi. Vincent was called Dean much of the time, sometimes Aldean. After quitting school at about the age of 14, he worked for a farmer Herman Azalino, in the Hollendale area. He went to Portland Oregon, California, and Rockford Ill, working in restaurants. He was a good cook. He came back to Dodgeville, Wi., when he wsa drafted into the Army. Dean was a very good worker. Was respected for his ability to work hard. He worked for Findorff Construction Co., for many years. He helped build Hilldale shopping mall, the first large mall in Madison. He also worked on the big expansion of Camp Randall stadium, at the Univ of Wi., Madison.Because of a severe drinking problem, he was terminated from this dangerous work. After a time, he went to work the City of Madison Parks Division, Forest Hill Cemetary. He was a good employee there. Quite a few times he was seen working hard, while the others leaned on their shovels. Again drinking became a problem. Dean seemed to have two sides to his personality. One was a man who loved his family dearly and took good care of them, and the other was a very different person. Because of his drinking problems, Dean had to live the latter years of his life under nursing home care.
