Toivo Niemi, 88, of Kelso, Washington passed away on Monday, November 28, 2005 
at a local care facility. 

Mr. Niemi was born to John G. & Senja (Punkavi) Niemitalo on May 25, 1917 in 
Cloquet, Minnesota. He moved to Kalama, Washington from Floodwood, Minnesota in 
1935. He married Wilma L. Johnson of Longview, WA in 1941; she preceded him in 
death in 1993. He then married Jo A. Reece in August 1995 in Colorado. 

He owned his own construction company. He built houses and businesses including 
the roof at Nor-Pac and the Lower Kalama Fish Hatchery. Toivo enjoyed playing 
music, especially the accordion; had his own band, Toi Niemi Scandinavian Band. 
Besides music, Mr. Niemi enjoyed bowling, playing pool, golfing and dancing. 
He was a member of many organizations, including: Loyal Order of Moose, Past 
Governor; Kelso Eagles; United Finnish Kaleva Brothers & Sisters; Kelso-
Longview Elks Lodge; Sons of Norway; and was a life member of the Musicians 
Union. 

He is survived by his wife Jo; Daughter Janice G. Johnson of Kelso, WA; 3 
grandchildren: Janine Duffy of Manchester, England, Joel Pritchard of Kalama, 
WA, and Katy Cornelius of Grantsville, UT; also survived by 3 Great-
grandchildren. 

Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 
2067, Longview, WA 98632. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2005 at Steele Chapel at 
Longview Memorial Park at 11:00am. No visitation will take place. Private 
Inurnment will take place at Longview Memorial Park.
