He was the husband of Eda Vaughan Whitehead and the son of the late Jacob and Ella Crumpler Whitehead of Southampton County. He was a member of Courtland Methodist Church. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Alvin F. Whitehead of Franklin and Wilbur Whitehead of Stoney Creek; five grandchildren, Frankie, Billy and Douglas of Franklin and Wayne and Keith Whitehead of Stoney Creek; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzy Whitehead of Courtland and Mrs. Carey Hill of Hampton; a brother, Emmett R. Whitehead of Courtland. Funeral services were conducted at the Courtland Methodist Church Sunday at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. C.W. Gibson, pastor, and the Rev. David Willis, pastor of the Capron Methodist Church. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Pallbearers were R.W. Hancock, L.B. Whitehead, D.L. Whitehead, James H. Hill, Lewis Babb, and Bradford Whitehead.
