All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.org/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARGARET COREEN McCLENNY WHITFIELD PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Coreen Whitfield, 80, who died Sunday in a Portsmouth Hospital after a short illness, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Holland Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Whitfield was a native of Southampton County but had lived in Portsmouth most of her life. She was the widow of Patrick Henry Whitfield and the daughter of John F. and Mrs. Elizabeth Gardner McClenny. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Annie M. Peet of Portsmouth and Mrs. Elizabeth Booth of Tuscon, Ariz.; a son, James H. Whitfield of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. O.F. Daughtry and Mrs. Emma Daughtry of Portsmouth; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of Franklin Baptist Church with burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were I. H. Pierce, R.L. Kelly, Melvin Brinkley, Floyd Clark, Roy McGhee and Mr. Jamerson.
