All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.org/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HILLARY LEE VAUGHAN Hillary Lee Vaughan, 75, a well-known farmer of the Franklin community, died Sunday morning, March 25, in Raiford Memorial Hospital after undergoing an operation on the previous Friday. Mr. Vaughan was the son of the late James Henry and Missouri Anne Joyner Vaughan of Southampton county and husband of Mrs. Mary Jane Gardner Vaughan, who survives him. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and of the Woodman of the World. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J. Edward Howell of Franklin, Mrs. Charles Darden of Portsmouth, and Mrs. J.W. Marshall of Richmond; three sons, Hudson Leroy Vaughan, Henry Cecil Vaughan and Ashley N. Vaughan, all of the community; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, J.R. Vaughan of Franklin; one sister, Mrs. Addie Blythe of Handsom; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Vaughan were held from the late residence at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, with Revs. L. M. Kanipe and R. D. Stephenson officiating. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being Lawless Cobb, W.O. Cotton, Hunter Darden, Ryland Edwards, Elmer Harcum, Shelley Joyner, E.P. Lowe and T.K. Monahan.
