All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.org/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLIE HERBERT TURNER Charlie Herbert Turner, 79, retired farmer and resident of Franklin, died at the home on the Franklin-Courtland Boulevard of his daughter, Mrs. Catherine Turner Pile, on Monday morning, February 21 after several months of failing health. The deceased was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Jane Bunch Turner and the son of the late Matthew and Lucille Lamkin Turner of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of its Bruner bible class. Besides Mrs. Pile he is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Harvey W. Cutchins, Mrs. Leroy H. Vaughan and Miss Marie Turner, all of Franklin; a brother, Richard J. Turner of Zuni; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Turner of Smithfield. Services for Mr. Turner were conducted in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland Sons on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, a former pastor. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were R.H. Allen, H.E. Byrd, Richard E. Carter, Gardner E. Cobb, John L. Eley, Jr., Thomas M. Grizzard, R.R. Lankford and Ashley Vaughan.
