All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.org/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN WILLARD THORNTON John Willard Thornton, 65, of Connellsville, Pa., a former resident of Sussex County, died at Raiford Memorial Hospital on Thursday night, June 28, after a brief illness. He was visiting his sister, Mrs. J.W. Beale, on High Street when taken ill. A retired chief dispatcher for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Mr. Thornton was the son of the late William and Indiana Briggs Thornton of Sussex County. He was a member of the Boydton Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth De Muth Thornton of Connellsville, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Ann E. Bluhm of Scottdale, Pa.; a brother, W.N. Thornton of Courtland; and a sister, Mrs. J.W. Beale of Franklin. Funeral services for Mr. Thornton were held in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon at 5 o’clock, with Rev. William Brayshaw of Smithfield officiating. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the following acting as pallbearers; William Beale of Richmond, Forrest B. Drewry, N.T. Duck, J.J. Finley, J. Edward Moyler and Richmond Peters.
