All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.org/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EMILY ETHEL HUNDLEY THORNTON Mrs. Ethel Hundley Thornton, 67, well known resident of the Courtland community, died suddenly Wednesday morning, October 30, in Raiford Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack. She was the widow of Herbert Vivian Thornton and the daughter of the late John A. and Mrs. Delia Alice Gardner Hundley of Southampton County. She was a member of old Trinity Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R.M. Dickerson of Courtland and Mrs. Dunreath T. Williams of Norfolk; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. George B. Vick, Sr., of Courtland; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted in Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, by Rev. L.M. Kanipe of St. Paul Baptist Church, Wise County, a former pastor of Courtland Baptist Church. Active pallbearers will be Odell Joyner, Elliott Parker, Cedric Pittman, Warren Beale, L.A. Clements, James D. Woodard, Jr., G.S. Cornwell, Jr., and Dr. Frank Daughtrey. [Emily Ethel (HUNDLEY; Mrs. Herbert V.)
