LILY VIRTLEY RAIFORD

Miss Lily Virtley Raiford, who died Friday night, July 13, were conducted 
Sunday at 3 p.m. at the residence near Zuni by Rev. R.P. Welsh of Darlington 
Heights.

   Miss Raiford a native of Southampton County died unexpectedly while visiting 
friends on Gloucester County, although she had been in declining health for 
many months.

   She was the daughter of the late Merritt L. and Martha Darden Raiford of 
Southampton County, and a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. She was a very 
active civic and church leader in the county.

   Surviving her are two sisters, Mrs. C.N. Gibson of Norfolk and Miss Alma 
Raiford of Southampton County and Norfolk; two brothers, R. Harvey Raiford of 
Norfolk and Lloyd M. Raiford of Southampton County and a number of nieces and 
nephews.

   Burial was in the family cemetery. Pallbearers were Liland E. Beale, Edgar 
Drewry, D.S. Edwards, Jr., Cadmus Stephenson, Garland Beale and Arthur Carr.
