RAIFORD ------ Mrs. Elizabeth Frances Raiford, the wife of Mr. E. J. Raiford, one of the most prominent citizens of the Corinth community, died at her home near Corinth Saturday morn- ing about 5 o'clock. The deceased was a good and true wife and mother, a consistent member of Corinth Friends Church and a no- ble Christian character, who pos- sessed a wide circle of friends and neighbors. She had been in fail- ing health for some time, and had recently fractured her hip in a fall, which had confined her to her bed and hastened the end. Mrs. Raiford, the daughter of John and Martha Babb, was born in Isle of Wight county February 14, 1861, moving to Southampton county in early childhood. In May, 1883, she married Edward J. Rai- ford, who survives her. The de- ceased is survived by two sons, E. Paul Raiford of Akron, O., and Ed- ward F. Raiford of Newport News; four daughters, Mrs. W. S. Urqu- hart of Sedley and Misses Mabel V., Mary Lou and Lula J. Raiford. Two brothers, Dr. B. F. Babb and Cornelius T. Babb, and two sisters, Mrs. James M. Bradshaw and Mrs. Anna B. Raiford, also survive, be- sides a number of nieces, nephews and grandchildren. The funeral services took place Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock and were held at Corinth Church by Rev. Lindley Clark of Washington, D. C., in the presence of a large company of sorrowing friends. The active pallbearers were her three sons, E. Paul and Edward F. Raiford and W. S. Urquhart of Sedley, and nephews, Benj. T. Babb of Franklin, J. J. Bradshaw of Nor- folk and Howard, Herbert and Levy Babb. The honorary pall- bearers were John C. Bradshaw, John E. Babb, Dr. R. L. Raiford, Charles Neave, Philip Raiford, Rowland Babb, James Wood and McCauley Babb.
