JAMES L. MOREL

   James L. Morel died suddenly at his home in High Street, Monday February 
11, from the effects of a cerebral hemorrhage, brought on by an attack of 
nausea.  Saturday night he was struck and knocked down by a bicycle while 
crossing Main Street, and although not painfully hurt or suffering any 
inconvenience from the accident, the blow probably was the indirect cause of 
the vomiting spell which preceded his death.  The rider of the wheel was a 
small negro grocery boy, Lee Johnson, by name. 

   Mr. Morel was a native of Tennessee and came to Franklin 17 years ago. For 
several years he was foreman of the machine shops for Camp Manufacturing 
Company, and resigned that position to become a member of the Lytton 
Manufacturing Corporation upon its organization.  About three years ago, he 
built a large and completely equipped machine shop here which he was 
successfully operating at the time of his death.  Mr. Morel was a good citizen 
and a useful member of the community. He was unobtrusive and unassuming, but 
was one of the most generous and best-hearted men the writer has ever known and 
had a wide circle of friends in the town and community. He was a member of the 
Franklin Christian Church, a Mason and a Woodman, these two fraternal 
organizations participating in the burial services of their esteemed and 
respected brother. 

   Soon after coming to Franklin, Mr. Morel married Mrs. Charles Howell, who 
survives him with three sons, James L. Jr., Meredith and Rawles Morel. He also 
leaves one brother, C.S. Morel of Bearden, Tenn., and four sisters, Mrs. M.E. 
Tobler of Bearden, Tenn., Mrs. A.M. Green of Knoxville, Tenn, Mrs. L.E. Drake 
of Bennington, Okla., and Mrs. S.C. Gray of Memphis, Tenn.  Mr. Charles Morel, 
Mrs. Tobler and Mrs. Green came to Franklin for the funeral. 

   The funeral was held from the Franklin Christian Church Wednesday afternoon 
at 2:30 o’clock by Dr. C.H. Rowland, pastor of the deceased, assisted by Rev. 
Francis R. Lee and Rev. R.M. Chandler, interment  following in Poplar Spring 
cemetery.  The active pallbearers were W.J. Cross, J.A. Williams, R.H. Harrell, 
L.R. Jones, Herbert Councill, W.E. Smith, B.B. Garrenton, Dr. A.P. Cutchin.  
The honorary pallbearers were W.C. Watson, R.E.L. Watkins, E.L. Beale, R.B. 
Eure, J.C. Parker, T.O. Barrett, W.T. Pace and Dr. R.H. Cobb.
