Miles died August 4, 1923, at his home near Handsom. He was born October 17, 1848. Fifty-three years ago he was married to Eveline Channell, who preceded him to the grave by two months. He is survived by two sons, W.E. Miles and L.M. Miles, four daughters, Mrs. Junius Britton, Mrs. Paul Derby, Mrs. Paul Derby Mrs. Pugh Holland and Mrs. Lula Holland and several grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn their loss three brothers, G.W. Miles, P.W. Miles and E.I. Miles. He was converted and joined the Methodist Church in early life and had been a faithful and consistent member of New Hope Church several years. He was a kind neighbor and was always bright and cheerful and never too busy to have a pleasant word with any he met. He had been in feeble health some time but always seemed patient and uncomplaining. After the death of her who had been his faithful companion for so many years, he declined more rapidly until about ten days prior to his death when he was stricken with paralysis, and while conscious to the end, he could not speak again. He was faithfully and tenderly nursed by his children who did all in their power to make him comfortable. The funeral services were conducted from the home by his Pastor, Rev. H.J. Paylor, and his body was laid to rest in the family burying ground, by that of his wife. The pallbearers were Dr. S.J. Railey, E.J. Bailey, V.K. Daughtrey, R.S. Maddrey, J.W. Bryant, J.C. Brett, J.B. Ferguson ad C.R. Lundquist.
