WILLIAM EMMETT MILES

   William Emmett Miles, 72, a well-known resident of this county, died in 
Raiford Memorial Hospital on Saturday afternoon, May 12, after several years of 
ill health.

   He was a son of the late William Henry and Evaline Channing Miles of 
Southampton County, and was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church near 
Como, N.C.

   Surviving are a brother, L.M. Miles of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Catherine 
Britton of Portsmouth; and a number of nephews and nieces.

   Funeral services were held at New Hope Methodist Church on Monday afternoon 
at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. R.B. Moore of Newsoms, followed by burial in the family 
cemetery.

   Active pallbearers were L.M. Carter, Lewis Gray, C.L. Holland, N.P. Holland, 
Foushee Railey, George S. Walker, W.F. Worrell and W.M. Worrell.  Honorary 
pallbearers were friends of the family.
