Johnson John Horton Johnson died at his home near Capron Monday morning, January 2, 1928, at the age of 46 years, after a brief illness of three weeks duration. The son of James Johnson and Frances Lee, Mr. Johnson was born at Merry Hill, Bertie County, N. C., September 8, 1881, moving to Southampton County at the age of ten years, where he had been a resident since. He married Miss Emma J. Smith, daughter of Mrs. Mollie J. Smith and the late Z. T. Smith. Mr. Johnson was an active member of the Boykins Masonic Lodge and the Odd Fellows Lodge of Capron. He is survived by his wife, Emma Johnson, and by seven children: Gracie Horton, J. Marshall, Gladys, Frances, Alvin, Dalton and Clyde; by his father, James Johnson, four sisters, and two brothers, Mrs. J. R. Pulley, Mrs. H. L. Taylor, Mrs. C. B. Smith and J. E. Johnson of Roanoke Rapids, N. C., and C. L. Johnson, Mrs. Rillard Miles of Boykins and a large circle of relatives and friends in Virginia and North Carolina. The active pallbearers were: A. J. Jenkins, J. S. Fuller, W. C. Bryant, T. B. Bell, H. A. Gillette, J. W. Holland, F. E. Pope. J. W. Worrell, J. H. Barnes. T. W. Story.
