He had suffered for several years from a heart condition, which suddenly grew worse while he was visiting in Courtland. Until his retirement four years ago Mr. Gillette had been connected with the River Crest Sanatorium, Long Island, N.Y. and with the Belle Meade Sanatorium in Belle Meade, N.J. Since his retirement he had acting in an advisory capacity for both institutions. It had long been his custom to spend the period from Thanksgiving to Christmas in his native county, visiting relatives and getting in some hunting. Mr. Gillette was the son of the late Ezra Gillette and Lucy Magette Gillette. He is survived by a brother, George W. Gillette of Temperanceville, and a sister, Mrs. Nettie Gillette Williams of Danville, and by several nieces and nephews. Services were conducted at the grave in Riverside Cemetery Courtland, this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. C.A. McCormick, Jr., pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church. The Courtland Masonic Lodge rendered the order's funeral rites. [James Ezra GILLETTE, d. 14 Dec 1954, age 76, bd.
