Ocean View Ave., civic leader, died early Wednesday in a Norfolk hospital after a brief illness. A funeral service was conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Raiford home place near Zuni by the Rev. Charles E. Neal of Ocean View Baptist Church and the Rev. C.L. Gatling of Black Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in the family cemetery. The widow of Clifford N. Gibson, she was born in Southampton County and lived in the Ocean View section of Norfolk 40 years. She was a daughter of Merritt L. and Mrs. Martha Darden Raiford of Southampton County. She was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church and past matron and current treasurer of Ocean View Chapter 34, Order of the Easter Star. She also was a member of Pickett-Buchanan Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, a former president of woman’s Democratic Voters League, and a member of Chesapeake Bay Art Association and Ocean View Garden Club. Surviving are a sister, Miss Alma L. Raiford of Zuni, and a brother R.H. Raiford of Tampa. Pallbearers were Edward Raiford, Edmond Raiford, Merritt Raiford, Hoen Edwards Jr., Otis Drake, Charles Gaugry, Robert Baum and Jethro Rhodes.
