She was the widow of Angus B. Barnes and daughter of the late William R. and Elizabeth Pope Bryant. At an early age she became a member of Whitehead Methodist Church where she served until a few years before her death when she joined the Courtland Methodist Church. She was a faithful wife and mother possessing the virtues of a Christian woman. One son, Royal Marvin Barnes, died in 1942 and she is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. G.D. Overman, Franklin, Mrs. E.F. Babb, Mrs. Thomas Vaughan, C.W. and R.T. Barnes of Courtland, W.B. Barnes of Dolphin, 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ellen Dickens, and two nieces, Misses Bessie and Helen Dickens, of Capron, one nephew, J.J. Dickens, Williamsburg. The funeral was conducted from the home by her pastor, Rev. Percy D. White, assisted by Rev. L.D. Stables. Interment was made in the Vincent Grove Cemetery.
