VIRGINIA BARHAM Mrs. Virginia Burgess Barham, 51, wife of Percy D. Barham of Portsmouth died in a Portsmouth hospital early Saturday morning July 13, after an illness of three weeks. A native of Southampton County, she was the duaghter of the late George Washington Burgess and Mrs. Virginia Cox Burgess of Capron. For the past 12 years she had resided in Portsmouth. She was a teacher in the Highland-Biltmore school in Norfolk County. Mrs. Barham was a member of the Capron Methodist Church. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Julia Ann Barham of Portsmouth; six sisters, Mrs. M.A. Pierce, Mrs. D.P. Little and Miss Bessie Burgess of Capron, Mrs. H.P. Marks of Suffolk, Mrs. Jane R. Edwards of Joyner, and Mrs. Hope B. Smith of Norfolk; a brother, R.L. Burgess of Capron; and several nieces and nephews. Services for Mrs. Barham were conducted at the Snelling Funeral Home in Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. E.N. Calvert, pastor of the Park View Methodist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Pallbearers were Curtis Brooks, Jr., Joe Burgess, R.J. Dunn,Jr., George B. Edwards, R..G. Edwards and Frank Scott. [Virginia (BURGESS; Mrs. Percy D.)
