LEONARD COBB BRITTLE DIES IN FRANCE

   The dark side of the war was brought home to the people of Ivor when the 
news was received Sunday afternoon of the death in France of Leonard Cobb 
Brittle, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Brittle of this place. Soon after 
the United States declared war upon Germany, Cobb Brittle volunteered because 
he felt it his duty and privilege. Though not of draft age and realizing that 
his parents' happiness depended upon him, he left with their consent for the 
training camp at Newport News, and later was sent to Camp McClellan, Ala. In 
July he left there for France and in September was taken with Pneumonia of 
which he died on September-16. 

   It was the writer's privilege to teach him two years in high school and for 
a year in Sunday school. He was a faithful in one as the other and to know him 
as this would give one a fair estimate of his life. He was a true patriot. 

No one of the boys who have gone into military training from this place will be 
more greatly missed and the sorely grieved mother and father have the heartfelt 
sympathy of everyone in the community.

LEONARD COBB BRITTLE

   In the Ivor M.E. Church of which he was a member, he will be greatly.

Memorial services were held in the Ivor M.E. Church Sunday for this young man, 
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Brittle of Ivor. His death overseas on September 
16 was caused by pneumonia. He was a volunteer in Company "I" of Franklin and 
had been in the service since the Spring of 1917. He was an excellent young man 
and a consistent member of the Ivor M.E. Church.
