BARRETT Miss Claudia Meredith Barrett, 82, well known and beloved resident of Franklin, died Friday afternoon, September 14, at the home of her sister, Mrs. L.C. Holland, in Suffolk after having suffered a heart attack earlier in the day. She was the daughter of the late Richard Crawford and Mary Estelle Powell Barrett of Franklin, and was one of the oldest members of the Franklin Baptist Church, where she had been active in all phases of church work until recent years. She was a member of the Franklin Music Study Club for a number of years and was a charter member of the Franklin Book Club. Surviving her are three sisters, Mrs. L.C. Holland of Suffolk and Mrs. Frank E. Howell and Mrs. Gene B. Rawls, both of Franklin; one brother, R. Sidney Barrett of Franklin, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland and sons Funeral Home with Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Dr. Reginald Holland, Frank E. Howell, Jr., and Bruce Elliott, all of Suffolk; Richard Barrett of Newport News, and Charles Rawls, R. Sidney Barrett, Jr., and Charles B. Farmer of Franklin.
