BOWLES Mrs. Mary E. Bowles, widow of the late J.H. Bowles, Handsom, Va., died July 21, 1919, in her 76th year. She was the mother of J.H. Bowles, North Emporia, J.J. Bowles, Kilby, W.T., D.F., W.R. Bowles, Handsom, A.J. Bowles, Portsmouth, Mrs. Lucy Barnes, Mrs. Sallie Spivey, Portsmouth, and Mrs. A.T. Daughtrey, Franklin, Va. there are twenty-seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bowles gave her heart to Jesus Christ and united with New Hope M.E. Church spending her life in useful service. He children rise up and call her blessed. Long years of service in the home, the neighborhood, and now she has gone to her rest, crowned with flowers and a good name. The funeral service was conducted at the home of her son, W.T. Bowles, Handsom, by Dr. C.H. Rowland, pastor of the Franklin Christian Church, in the absence of her pastor, Rev. W.R. Evans. The body was laid to rest in the family graveyard. The pallbearers were: J.T. Gardner, W.L. Bowles, B.L. Bowles, H.L. Barnes, G.M. Cotten, R.E. Bowles, W.H. Barnes, Jr., and H.C. Bowles. [Mary E. (JONES; Mrs. J.H.)
