Babb, known to his friends generally as "Fiddler" Babb, died at his home near Courtland January 24, 72 years of age, after an illness of about six years. Mr. Babb was an exemplary citizen, a man of many friends and a successful farmer, owning the old Judge Prince place near Courtland, one of the best farms in Southampton County. A son of the late James and Mrs. Virginia Kitchen Babb; five sons, Ryland A. Babb of Bluefield, W.Va., Sergeant Marvin W. Babb, now in the South Pacific, Henry C. Babb of Ahoskie, N.C., David Vaughan Babb and Louis Spivey Babb of Courtland; three daughters, Mrs. V.G. Herring of Goldsboro, N.C., Mrs. James Pittman of Waverly and Mrs. James S. Baburek of Suffolk, nine grandchildren and two brothers, Emmett F. Babb and Mack Babb of Courtland. He was a faithful member of the Courtland Methodist Church and of the Wesleyman’s Bible Class of that church, funeral services being conducted from his residence Tuesday afternoon by his pastor, the Rev. Percy D. White, being assisted by a former pastor, the Rev. J.E. Brooks. The pall was of white and pink carnations. Active bearers were: L.W. McGarth, Charles R. Scott, F.W. Whitehead, H.B. McLemore, Jr., T.B. Bell, Leroy Bryant, Emmett R. Davis and Jas. T. Gillette. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland.
