He was born April 23, 1913, to the late Henry A. and Josephine P. Pruner. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia P. Johnston; sisters, Julia Storm and Virginia Tilson; and brother, Jack Pruner. Mr. Pruner owned and operated a shoe repair shop in Marion from 1947 until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, a charter member of Marion Rebekah Lodge 42, Thompson Lodge 88 I.O.O.F. and a Master Mason of Lodge 31 for over 50 years. He was a founding member of the Smyth County Association for Retarded Children and was active in United Commercial Travelers. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Groseclose Pruner of Marion; daughters, Rose Reed, currently residing in India and Linda Kendall and son-in-law Stephen of Faber, Va.; sons, Henry C. Pruner Jr. and daughter-in-law, Diane, and James M. Pruner, all of Triangle, Va.; son-in-law, John A. Johnston of Pulaski, Va.; eight grandchildren, Robert Johnston of Winston-Salem, N.C., Kyle Reed of Litttleton, Colo., Alexa Reed and Kara Reed, both of Virginia Beach, Va.,. Quintin Kendall of Richmond, Amanda Kendall of Bar Harbor, Maine, Steve Kendall of Alexandria and Jake Pruner of Triangle; three great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery where Masonic rites will be conducted by Marion Lodge 31 A.F. and A.M. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. For memorial donations, the family suggests contributions be made to Zuni Presbyterian Center through Presbyterian Family Service, 150 Linden Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24503. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is serving the Pruner Family.
