Pennington Harley Ray Pennington, 67, of Troutdale, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and was the son of the late Harley and Mildred Walls Pennington. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Ray Pennington. He retired in 2000 from the U.S. Forestry Service after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock. Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Pennington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Margaret Pennington of Marion and Kevin and Jeanie Pennington of Troutdale; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Gerald Widener of Marion and Teresa and Ronald Parsons of Troutdale; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Katie Pennington of Damascus; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Eugene Fauber of Spotswood; six grandchildren, one great-grandson, two step- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, the Rev. Tim Blevins; and a pet dog, Scamper. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, March 9, 2005, in the Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock. The Revs. Tim Blevins, Jimmy Lundy, Jr. and Jerry Fritz officiated the ceremony. The committal service and interment followed at Azen Cemetery. Flowers were accepted or in lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions be sent to the Cancer Outreach Foundation, 206 Abingdon Place, Abingdon, VA 24211. The family received friends Tuesday evening, March 8, 2005, at the Azen Baptist Church. Garrett Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.
