Biography of Isaac H. Buford - Pulaski Co. VA Source: The Index to Pulaski County History in Hardesty's 1884 ISAAC H. BUFORD - is a son of Paschal G. and Frances A. (OTEY) BUFORD, who were born and raised in Bedford county, Virginia, and he was born in that county September 25, 1838. He made his home in Pulaski county, and was here married, August 31, 1859, to Sallie McG. KENT. She was born in Pulaski county, November 15, 1839, daughter of David F. and Elizabeth (CLOYD) KENT, her father born in Wythe county and her mother in Montgomery county, Virginia. Both Mr. and Mrs. BUFORD are descended from families who have always been honorably prominent in the history of Virginia. They were the first couple united in marriage in Pulaski county by an Episcopalian clergyman. Ten children blessed their union, of whom death has taken one: Elizabeth Cloyd was born January 4, 1862; James R. Kent, December 12, 1863, died October 24, 1869; Julius G. July 27, 1865; David F., April 20, 1867; Frances Otey, October 23, 1868; John March 12, 1871; Lucy Kent, January 11, 1873; Paschal Kent, June 6, 1874; Sarah Ellen, October 18, 1875; Stanley Gibbs, February 8, 1878. Isaac H. BUFORD entered the Confederate service as corporal of Company F, Fifty-Fourth Virginia Infantry, and was soon appointed to the position of commissary for Colonel Jesse WADE'S brigade. In this very responsible position, requiring energy and tact in no common degree as the struggle in Virginia approached it's unhappy close, he served with ability. His brother, Captain John BUFORD, commanded the "Buford Greys", attached to the Forty- Eighth Virginia Infantry, was dangerously wounded at Kernstown, taken to his home in Liberty, Bedford county, where he died of his injuries, mourned by his entire command, and a loss to the cause he served with honor. Isaac H. BUFORD has one of the finest estates in the Alleghany valley, and is farming and grazing one thousand acres of it. Dublin, Pulaski county, Virginia, is his address.
