Prince William Co., Virginia DATE: 1856. OWNERS: Hugh Hite, before 1856 John Trone, 1856 Trustees St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1907 Trustees of the Pentecostal Church, present owners. (1938) DESCRIPTION: This church stands on a hill, on the left hand side of the highway going towards Warrenton. It is a small white painted Church, with a belfry, and still bears the name :Harrison Memorial Church”. There is nothing to indicate the age on the interior. To the west there is a graveyard of considerable size, but many of the old stones either have no inscriptions, or they are so worn as to be illegible. The inscriptions which are of any age follow: In Memory of Rev. John Steadman Trone born in Prince William County, Virginia, February 16, 1802 died October 5, 1885 I would not live always, having a desire to depart and be with Christ. In Memory of Mrs. Delilah Trone wife of Rev. John S. Trone December 22, 1876, in her 81st year A faithful partner & mother kind, She lived benevolent, and died resigned. Julia Agnes Trone wife of Eugene Compton November 30, 1837 August 6, 1914 A faithful daughter, a true wife, a Christian! Died in Buckland, January 14, 1858 Lucy M. Daughter of J.W. and A.M. McIntosh age 8 years, 11 mo. Sweet flower transplanted to the garden of our Lord. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: As the following extract shows, this land was purchased as a Church site: “John S. Trone bought of Hugh H. Hite and Ann R. his wife, for one dollar, one acre of land for a house of worship, with the understanding that it can be used by other evangelical Societies when not in use of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.” This belonged to the Sudley Circuit which was composed of Sudley, Centreville, and Buckland, and continued to be used by the Methodists until 1907. Rev. John S. Trone was its first pastor, and continued there until his death.
