Prince George Co., VA Deeds of Emancipation Deed of Emancipation - Augustin Heath's Slaves 1788 (Deeds etc. 1787-92, page 123, Prince George Co.VA.) I Augustin Heath of Prince George County in Virginia, after full and deliberate consideration (and agreeable to our Bill of Rights) am fully persuaded that freedom is the Natural Right of all mankind, and that no Law, moral or divine, hath given me a just Right, or property in the persons of any of my fellow creatures, and Desirous to fulfil the Injunction of our Lord & Savior JESUS CHRIST, by doing to all others as I would be done by, do hereby set free from Bondage the following Negroes Vizt: Seile, Sarah, James, Betty, Henry, Charles, Alexander,and do for myself my heirs, Executors and Administrators from this day Release unto the said Negroes, all my Right, & all claim whatsoever as to their persons or to any Estate they may acquire, hereby declaring the said Negroes absolutely free without any Interruption from me or any person claiming under me. As several of the above nam'd Negroes are yet in their nonage, I desire to have the care Guardian-ship and Instruction of the said children till they arrive at full age, which happen, James May 17,1796, Henry June 23d 1802, Charles December 25th 1805, Alexander April 5th 1806 at which several periods I discharge the above named Children from any engagement to me or any person claiming under me. I sarah Gary of prince George County in Virginia after full and deliberate consideration and agreeable to our Bill of Rights am fully persuaded that freedom is the natural Right all mankind and that no Law moral or Divine hath given me a just Right or property in the persons of any of my fellow Creatures and Desirous to fulfill the Injunction of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by doing to all others as I would be done by, do hereby set free from bondage too Nigro girls Amey aged fifteen Years, But as the said Girl is yet in her nonage I desire to have the care Guardianship and Instruction of the said girl till she arise at full age, which happen May 15,1793. I Barnaby Nixon of Prince George County Virginia Being fully persuaded that Freedom is the natural Right of all mankind and that it is my Duty to do unto others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation, and having under my care Negroes of the following names and ages vizt:Jimmie aged about twenty three years, Jacob aged about twenty six years, I do therefore Emancipate and set free the said Negroes, and I do for myself, my Heirs, Executors and Administrators Relinquist all my right, Title, Interest & Claim or pretensions of claim whatsoever, either to their persons or to any Estate they may hereafter acquire, and having also under my care Negroes now in their minority of the following names and ages, Vizt: Moses aged about sixteen years, Mille about Eight years, Polly aged about three years. Whom I also hereby Emancipate & set free, yet I believe it right for me to act as a Guardian over them until the males arive to the age of twenty one years and the females to the age of Eighteen years. And I do for myself, my Heirs, Executors and Administrators relinquish all my Right, Title, Interest and Claim or pretensions of claim whatsoever either to their pesons or to any estate they may acquire after they shall attain to the ages aforesaid. I do therefore Emancipate & set free the above said Negroes and I do for myself, my Heirs, Executors and Administrators Relinquish all my right, Title, Interest & claim or pretentions of claim whatsoever, either to their persons or to any Estate they may hereafter acquire, without any interruption from me, or any person claiming for, by, or under me. I William Simmons of Prince George County in Virginia being Fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind & that it is my Duty to do unto others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation, & having under my care a negro named Phebe about forty three years of age, I do therefore Emancipate & set free the aforesaid negro and I do for myself my Heirs Executors & Administrators Relinquish all my Right, Title, Interest and Claim or pretentions of claim whatsoever Either to her person or to any Estate she may herafter acquire. And having also Negroes now in their minority of the following names & ages Vizt: Ned & Murry whom I also hereby Emancipate and set free, yet I believe it right for me to act as Guardian over them untill the males arive to the age of Twenty One and the females to the age of Eighteen years & I do for myself my Heirs, Executors & Administrators relinquish all my Right, Title, Interest & Claim or pretention of Claim whatsoever either to their person or any Estate they may acquire after they shall attain to the ages aforesaid which will be as followeth, (to wit) Ned the twenty fourth day of the seventh month one thousand seven hundred & Eighty Eight, Murry the first day of the tenth month one thousand seven hundred & ninety nine, without Interruption from me or any person claiming, for, by, from or under me. I do therefore Emancipate and set free the said Negroes, and I do for myself, my heirs, executors and Administrators relinquish all my Right, Title, Interest & Claim or pretention of claim whatsoever, either to their persons or to any Estate they may hereafter acquire. And having also under my care Negroes now in their minority of the following names and ages vizt: London aged about nineteen years & ten months, Silvey aged about nine years, Selah aged about Eight years, whom I also hereby Emancipate & set free, yet I believe it right for me to act as a Guardian over them until the male arive to the age of twenty one and the females to the age of Eighteen years which will be as followeth (to wit) London the last day of the second month in the year 1789, Silvey the 8th day of the Eleventh moh.1796, Selah the first day of the first month 1797. And I do for myself, my heirs, Executors & Administrators relinquish all my Right, Title, Interst & claim or pretention of claim whatsoever Without any Interruption from me or any person claiming for, by, from or under me either to their persons or to any estate they may acquire after they shall attain to the ages aforesaid. I John Bland of Prince George County Virginia being desirous of emancipating the Following slaves vizt: Sally about the age of twenty seven years, John of the age of Eleven years, Polly of the age of nine years, Nancy of the age of four years, Ailsy of the age of two years or thereabouts. I do therefore emancipate and set free the said slaves and I do for myself my heirs, Executors and administrators relinquish all my right, title, interest and claim or pretentions of claim whatsoever either to their persons, or to any Estate they may hereafter acquire, yet as the four last mentioned are in their minority I do agree to act as Guardian for them until they arrive at an age to act for themselves, that is to say until the male arrive at the the age of twenty one years and the females at the age of Eighteen years which will be as followeth (to wit) John the 10th day of November 1798, Polly the 28th day of December 1797, Nancy the 18th October 1802, Ailsey the 17th March 1805, at the expiration of which times they shall have no interruption from me or any person claiming for, by, from or under me.
