WHITEHEAD DIES SUDDENLY WELL KNOWN CITIZEN OF SUFFOLK AND SANITARY INSPECTOR FALLS ON STREET Suffolk, Va., July 22 [1907]. This afternoon at 6 o’clock, as Mr. R.E. Whitehead, a well known and much esteemed citizen of Suffolk was returning to his home from a trip down town, he was seen to waver a moment and fall heavily to the pavement just by the Bank of Suffolk. Friends rushed to him to find his body already lifeless. He was tenderly taken up and carried to his home where the news was broken to his widow. His son Emmett Whitehead had gone to Norfolk on an afternoon train, but was located and returned tonight. Mr. Whitehead was 64 years of age, a native of Southampton County and a Confederate veteran. He served throughout the War of Succession in Mahone’s brigade, Company A, Forty-First Virginia regiment under Captain B.F. Jarratt and Colonel Minitree. For years he was associated in the furniture business with Hall and Holt but of recent years had led a retired life. A devout Christian and consistent member of Main Street M.E. Church, Mr. Whitehead’s upright life won for him the esteem of all who knew him. He is survived by a widow, who was Miss Sue Hall, one son, Lieutenant Emmett A. Whitehead, of Company F; one daughter, Mrs. R.A. Holt of Norfolk, Va. [Robert E.
