Born Dec. 8, 1914, in Muskogee, Okla., he was the first of nine children born to his parents, Charles Moody Bryce and Irene Brennan Bryce. After graduating from Tulsas Marquette High School in 1933, he attended Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) in Stillwater. After leaving college, Charles spent more than 40 years in the oil well drilling industry, for which he developed (as many have) a romance with the oil industry. Those years included association with drilling companies in Tulsa, Odessa, Midland, San Angelo, Illinois and Central America. These assignments were interrupted only during his service in the United States Navy during World War II. While employed in Venezuela in 1959, his wife, the former Helen Latham (whom he married in 1938) and their two sons were killed in a tragic plane accident. On April 28, 1962, he and Margaret Younger were married in Midland and have resided in San Angelo since 1965. Upon moving here, he purchased the local Shamrock distributorship and owned and operated Bryce Oil Co. until his retirement in 1979. Charles civic and church activities in San Angelo have included his serving on the board of the Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, YMCA, West Side Rotary Club, Little League and the expansion of the former St. Johns Hospital. He was a district director for many years with the Texas Oil Marketers Assn. He was a former president of the Holy Angels Parish Council, School Board and was one of the first three lay persons appointed by the late Bishop Steven Leven as a minister for the Holy Eucharist. With great pride for his Irish descent, he celebrated St. Patricks Day for many years by donning his green top hat and distributing shamrocks to the students of Holy Angels School. His hearty laughter, his sense of humor and his love for God, family and friends never faltered. His gentle demeanor was always present. Before their marriage, his parish priest described him to Margaret as 24-Karat Gold. His family has found this description to be very accurate. He has felt especially blessed in recent years through his three grandchildren, whom he adored. Granddad will be missed by all. His family is appreciative for the capable care he has been given in the last several months by Drs. Chris Barnett, Steve Boster, Raj Cheruku, Michael Cornell, Rebecca Crenshaw, Gayle Flood and Gene Sherrod. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Helen, and their two sons, Stephen and Paul; a sister, Sister Mary Charles Bryce, OSB; and his three brothers, Dr. John Bryce, Walter Bryce and Father Philip Bryce. Their first eight years in Eldorado, Lucy and Paul were blessed with four healthy, active children. Lucy spent time reading, participating in church activities, and keeping up with friendships in Eldorado and Dallas. As her children matured and left home for college, and then married, Lucy treasured having more time with Paul and traveling with him. She also had more time for projects such as the communitys beautification project and supporting the establishment of the Way Off Broadway Players. Even after Lucy moved to San Angelo upon the death of her husband, Paul, she enjoyed supporting her church and playing bridge with her friends. She took great delight in people and in all things bright and beautiful. Lucys energy, sense of humor, and faithful encourager as mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend are gifts that will be long remembered. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and an infant son. She is survived by her four children, Paul Eugene Page Jr. of Midland, Patty and husband, Randy Gardner of San Angelo, Kathy Nobles of Midland and Carolyn and husband, Willis Price, also of Midland. Lucy is also survived by grandchildren, Sutton, Russell, Michael and Chelsea Page, Julianna Gardner Holland and husband, Bradlee, Reed Gardner, Ross, Rebecca and Natalie Nobles, and Ryan, Page and Laura Price; sister-in-law, Maxine Page; and several nieces and nephews.
