RAYMOND JOHN TAYLOR Raymond John Taylor, 94, formerly of San Angelo, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, in Lamesa. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in Fairmount Cemetery with The Rev. Ben Hubert officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Raymond John Taylor was born Nov. 9, 1902, in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas, to Charles Walter Taylor and Maria Valentina Seibert Taylor. He was a graduate of San Angelo public schools, began work with the San Angelo Standard newspaper in 1910 as a newsboy, worked with Railway Express, headed the photographic department of Central Drug Co. and rejoined the San Angelo Standard-Times on Jan. 1, 1927, as a Linotype operator. He retired from the newspaper on Oct. 30, 1964, but worked for the newspaper on a part-time basis and also worked for Holcombe-Blanton Printery. He married Mayme Lee Schmickle on July 15, 1922, in Ballinger, Texas. She died in March 1965. He and Blanche Driver were married July 29, 1967, and they lived in Rio Concho Manor until her death in 1988. Raymond was a faithful member of First Christian Church in San Angelo and published the church's newsletter from April 1950 until 1974, except for a year and a half when he was taking care of his first wife during her terminal illness. He also drove one of the church's vans in bringing members to the church house for study and worship. He was taken to Vernon, Texas, in 1988 to live with a nephew, H.L. Crouch Jr. After a couple of years in the home, Raymond and his sister, Helen Crouch, were moved to a private care home. In 1993, they were moved to Lamesa, Texas, to a private care home, and in 1994 were moved to Sage Healthcare Center in Lamesa, where he lived until his death. Mr. Taylor is survived by a sister, Helen Crouch of Lamesa; a stepdaughter, Cookie Lapp of Austin; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts may be made to First Christian Church or West Texas Rehabilitation Center. FLOSSIE L. DODD Flossie L. Dodd, our beloved mother, grandma and memaw was called home by her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Central Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. He preceded her in death in 1977. Flossie devoted her life to helping things grow, her family, her love for the Lord, her garden and flowers. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of Family Hospice. JESUS ROCHA ROBERT LEE - Jesus Rocha was born on Feb. 2, 1932, in El Remolino, Coahuila, Mexico. He was the ninth of 12 children born to Francisco Rocha and Josefa De Los Santos. He married Josephine Sanchez from Robert Lee, Texas, on June 14, 1959. They lived in Houston for 27 years, where he worked as a steel burner for Proler International Steel Corp. In 1993, they moved to Robert Lee. Jesus died Monday, Jan. 27, 1997. Jesus embodied a spirit of generosity, giving of meager means. He made himself available to help family, neighbor, friend and stranger. Jesus embodied a spirit of forgiveness, setting an example for family and friends. He never complained about his illness and always reassured everyone that he was OK. Dorothy Cooper KERRVILLE - Dorothy ``Dot'' Cooper, 56, of Ingram died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, in a San Antonio hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Center Point Cemetery in Center Point. She was born Nov. 3, 1940, in Concord, N.H., and had been a resident of Ingram for 16 years. She worked as an administrator for the Health & Wellness Centers of American in Boerne and Kerrville, as a counselor at Charter Real Counseling Center and La Hacienda Treatment Center in Kerrville and Hunt. She was a member of the Masonic Eastern Star in Center Point and Kerrville and the First Presbyterian Church of Ingram. Survivors include her husband, Joe Cooper of Ingram; a daughter, Judy Hardy of Concord; two stepsons, Joe Paul Cooper of Lake Whitney and Roy Cooper of Waco; a stepdaughter, Michelle Cooper of Waco; two sisters, Barbara Dhunham of Brockton, Mass., and Maryland Manzer of Union City, N.J.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Versie Daily ROSCOE - Versie Seago Daily, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, in a local care center. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are by McCoy Funeral Home. She was born April 18, 1907, in Roscoe. She was a homemaker, a family historian and a member of the Roscoe Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Jann Daily of Roscoe; three grandchildren, Michael Daily of Denton, Liz Lehrman of Abilene and Diana Way of Mansfield; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Willie Smith LLANO - Willie M. Smith, 69, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 1997, at his residence. Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with burial in Llano City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Temple and was a lifetime resident of Llano. An Army veteran of World War II and Korean War, he was a retired construction worker for General Telephone. He was a member of the Llano First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Smith of Llano; two daughters, Ada Jo Bauman of Llano and Jimie Ruth of Mason; a son, Willie Smith of Llano; two sisters, Ruth Oertli of Austin and Mozelle Idol of Marble Falls; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Gladys Colley WINTERS - Gladys Bourne Colley, 88, of Odessa and formerly of Winters, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, in an Odessa hospital. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. today in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Winters Funeral Home. She was born Nov. 8, 1908, in Killeen. She was a retired school teacher and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Gene Colley of Deer Park and Jack Colley of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, Matt Jack Colley of Pasadena and Desiree Jane Colley of Houston. Josefa Duarte ALPINE - Josefa O. Duarte, 93, of Sanderson died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, in a Fort Stockton hospital. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. James Catholic Church in Sanderson. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial in Santa Rita Cemetery. Arrangements are by Geeslin Funeral Home. She was born March 19, 1903, in Chihuahua, Mexico, and had lived in Sanderson since 1930. She was a homemaker and a member of St. James Catholic Church. Survivors include a son, Santiago Duarte Sr. of Austin; a daughter, Consuelo D. Carroll of Sanderson; a stepdaughter, Refigia Duarte Sanchez of Monterrey, Mexico; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
