Creswell opened a Family Grocery less than a month ago on the north side of court square. The Albany Meat Market is one of the oldest institutions on the place until February 1st, last it passed into the hands of J.E. Dickerson, who carries on the business. He has the contract from the government to supply beef for the Tonkawas and Lipan Indians at Ft. Griffin. His shop is on the west side of the court square. A.[Archibald] A. Clarke and Thomas Maloney – attorneys. Mr. Clarke admitted to the bar, March 1872, locating here in Oct 1877 Maloney admitted June 1873 and came to this place associating with Mr. Clarke in March 1873. Peter Hart admitted – Oct 1876 and came to Albany in Feb. 1878, being the oldest resident attorney here. J.N. Campbell is the oldest practioner in the place having been licensed Oct 1857 and came here Dec. 1881 Edgar Rye was admitted Oct 1878 and has practice law here since that date L.W. Campbell – entered July 1879 and located here Dec. 1881 Deed H. Meyer – admitted Sept. 1881 and J.C. Son came here in December last and on Christmas Day, issued the first number of the Albany Star, 8 page, five column newspaper. He was raised in the harness. Albany Echo $2 a year J.I. Spence – Albany Laundry Dr. Alcorn – dentist Mrs. L.M. Spears, South Jacobs Street Mrs. Best and Mrs. Standifer – milliners and dressmakers At Baird Saturday, C.W. Hinson, a freight conductor, on the Texas Pacific Road, shot and killed Harry C. Merchant, a saloon keeper. Young Merchant is the son of Mr. John Merchant of Abilene. Wire fence of Reynolds & Matthews was cut this week by parties passing through the country. Dr. Dunlap of Seymour At the residence of B.F. Reynolds in Throckmorton County, Wednesday, July 25, Elder C.K. Stribling officiating the marriage of W.D. Housley to Miss Nettie Matthews. The pair left for their bridal tour to Louisville, KY. Frank Alley, now of San Marcos, and deputy sheriff of Hays county, visited friends at Albany and Griffin. Frank gained notoriety in Albany some years ago as the principal witness in the Kennedy trail, for the murder of young Freeman on the buffalo range. Our old friend and typo, Will Nixon is living in Seymour. The contract to build the new bank building was let to Charley Ferguson.
