Freestone County, Texas Communities Liberty Liberty was located in the SE corner of Freestone County near the Limestone County and Anderson County borders. Nearby places are Butler, Forest Glade, and Oakwood. (Oakwood is in Limestone County.) The area around Liberty is drained by Caney Creek that follows directly into the Trinity River. In April 1886, it was reported that Liberty was lacking a school for the kids and Oakwood was the closest post office. Later in July, they started a school for the children with Judge D. Burlsmith as the teacher. Liberty still appears on maps from 1918. Church: Liberty Church [Note- many are considered Forest Glade residents as well] Known people in Liberty were: Bacon, A.
