Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder Thursday May 11, 2006 Joe Pierce Titus, Sr. Joe Pierce Titus, Sr., former resident of Fairfield, died in his home in San Diego, California on April 29. He was 81 years old. Mr. Titus was the youngest son of Governor and A. M. Titus and was raised in Titus Farm Community of Freestone county. He was known as an industrious man with strong convictions and loyalty, who was friendly and kind. Mr. Titus was a career sailor, an aircraft mechanic and fueler, cook, devoted husband and father. After completing a tour in the U. S. Navy during World War II, he moved to Dallas and married Bettye Louise Avery. Together they had two sons and three daughters. After his divorce Mr. Titus married Maxine Jackson and the two had a daughter. The marriage ended in divorce and he returned to his first family in San Diego, California. Mr. Titus received the P. S. A. Man of the Month award of 1985, the Balboa Naval Hospital's Civil Service award, Man of the Year in 1963 and he was a member of "Who Is Who In Hunter Titus Families". He is survived by his first wife Bettye L. Titus; sons Joe, Jr., Steven Wayne and twins Malvin James and Marvin David Titus; daughters Charlotte Titus Keys, Sheryl Titus Carter, Beverly Diane Titus of San Diego, California and Wanda Titus Jeffrey of Doyline, Louisiana and brothers Wilbur T. Titus of Fairfield and Cornelius Titus of Los Angeles, California. Mr. Titus is also survived by his grandchildren Christina L., Janelle L. and Sheryl A. Titus, David Tucker, Jr., Debra D. Owens, Audrey L. Dyer, Sharonda D. and Michael J. Parker, Isaiah L., Elijah A.. Alisha N., Charlisha and Andre' G. Titus, Amanda Latrice, Billy, Jr. and Shawon Niclole Jeffrey. His great grandchildren include Brittney M. Crayton, Lynette A., Shakira and Horace Dyer, Jr., Faith J. Giles and Darryl A. Davis, Keithen Austin, Cameron, Jaquela, Jacquelyn, Jaquaz, Rico, Dailyn, Latrelle, Laronica, Ramone and Debonair Jeffrey, Kiara Colbert and many other relatives and friends.
