Historical Commission meets Freestone County Historical Commission met in regular session last Tuesday and heard a program by Monte Akers of Fairfield who participated as a Civil War re-enactors in filming of the television mini-series "North and South". The meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. at Wortham Housing Authority. Sarah Chancellor opened the meeitng with a prayer. Business included a review of the success of the Freestone County Sesquicentennial Pageant, parade and coinciding events, reading of the minutes from the last meeting and financial report. New business included discussion of the necessity of an overhand for the Val Verde cannon cover at the Freestone county courthouse and the need for a reader- printer for the museum in Fairfield. Both matters were tabled. For his program, Akers described the week in November he spent in Mississippi during the filming of the mini-series which ended Sunday. The re-enactors lived as Civil War soldiers did and wore authenic uniforms and clothing. Refreshments were served by the Wortham hostess. Next meeting of the commission is at 7:30 June 3 at First National Bank of Fairfield.
