All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm *********************************************** The Abilene Reporter News Abilene, Taylor County, Texas Tuesday, January 4, 1944 Coleman Couple Killed COLEMAN, Jan. 3 Mr. and Mrs. Jim Watson of Coleman were killed and their twin daughters, Mable and Ruth, 21, were seriously injured in a head on automobile crash four miles north of Burnett on Highway 66 Sunday night when they were enroute to see another daughter, Mrs. Orville Sewell of San Antonio. Also dead was Sgt. James O. Lancaster of Camp Hood, Texas. Others injured were Mrs. Maggie Simon of Killeen, Grace D. Watson and two Camp Hood soldiers. Pvt. James Armstrong and his brother, Edward Armstrong. The Camp Hood soldiers and Miss Jones were in one automobile and the Watson family in the other. Mr. Watson, 52, has been employed as a clerk at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Coleman for a number of years. He was a native of Coleman county as was his wife who was slightly younger. Funeral arrangements were incomplete Monday night. Surviving Mr. and Mrs. Watson are the twin daughters: Ruth and Mable, who are employed at Camp Hood; son - Vernon, station in the Army at Washington, a brother - Jess and Mr. Watson's father - John Watson, both of May, Texas.
