The rites were officiated by Javan Vosburg, Jr. of San Angelo and directed by Shaffer Funeral Home of Robert Lee. Mr. Smith, 77, died on Sunday morning at West Coke County Nursing Home where he had been a resident since 1981. He was born April 13, 1910 in Wilson County near Stockdale, Texas to Addison and Clemmie Stroud Smith. At the death of his parents, he moved to Robert Lee at the age of 8 to live with his maternal grandparents, Merritt and Fatima Stroud, and attended Robert Lee School. As an adult, he returned to the South Texas area where he was engaged in lath and plaster construction business. Mr. Smith was married to Evelyn Webber in San Angelo in July 1938. The couple made their home in San Antonio until Mrs. Smith's death in November 1980. Due to ill health, Mr. Smith moved to Robert Lee in January 1981. His survivors include on sister, Cleora Davis, of Robert Lee; two nieces, Maurine Vosburg, Robert Lee and Ione Raymond of Houston; one nephew, Add Davis, Robert Lee; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
