   Your correspondent "Jeff" from this neighborhood has been silent for such a
long time that we venture to take his place, and give you a few items from this
vicinity.

    James McDonald left us for Chickasaw county Iowa. He will return early in
the spring, bringing his sister or (some other fellows sister) out with him to
keep house.

    Morgan Flint, after digging down fifty and some feet found plenty of
excellent water.

    Miss eva Hawthorne has come back from Mitchell, where she has been teaching
school for several months past.
