The date of his nativity is April 10, 1867, and his birthplace is Wurtemberg, Germany, where his parents! Herman and Mary (tinder) Loevinger, both died. Of a family of four children our subject was the second in order of birth. He pursued advanced studies, and at the time of his father's death he had not engaged in any active business, but soon afterward he started for the New World. A few weeks spent in Chicago failed to find him any work, and in the spring of 1883 he went to Mitchell, Dakota, where he obtained work in a furniture store. In 1885 he entered the White Lake Bank, in the employ of its president, J. C. Ryan, and for five years was cashier of this institution, at the end of which time, in 1891, he became proprietor of the private banking business, with a capital stock of twenty-five thousand dollars. Success has attended his efforts, and the institution reflects the business ability of our subject. In 1896 Mr. Loevinger was married to Miss Sadie Wagner, a native of Iowa, born in 1877. Their home has been blessed by one son, Frank R. Our subject has been an important factor in the upbuilding of the town of White Lake, and has been its mayor continuously since he attained the age of his majority. The office has been conducted with the strictest fidelity to the good of his community, and Mr. Loevinger holds an enviable position in the hearts of his fellow citizens. In politics he is a Republican.
