Loyal Adams came to this county from Pennsylvania in 1873 at the age of 27 and engaged in the wood business for several years. He filed on his homestead opposite Hamilton island in what is now the Gjolme ranch in 1880. His residence has been in this county except for short intervals ever since his arrival in 1873. He was the first county treasurer. He relates that the total collections for his term was $145, nothing having been paid out. His salary for the whole term amounted to $4.50 which he turned over to his successor since it was so small.
