F. Singleton received a letter a few days ago from the War Department informing him of the death of his brother, Joseph Sparkman Singleton, who died in France, October 29, of Influenza Grippe. His name appeared in the causality of Dec. 7th as Jos. S. Singleton, of Boxport, S. C. The address was somewhat misleading and relatives and friends were uncertain until recently when the report was confirmed by letter from the department. Sparkman was connected with the Signal Corps of Headquarters Company 54th U. S. Infantry and has been in France since July of last year. He received training at Camp Wadsworth S. C. The deceased solider was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jos. E. Singleton, of Socastee, and was the only brother of B. F. Singleton, of Bucksport. Sparkman attended when quite young, and later attended the Spring Branch school of this county. He also completed a course of Bookkeeping at Massey’s Business College, Richmond, Va. And has spent the past few years working in that city and at Hopewell, Va., which town he was called into service last May.
