Ison The prosperous farmer and stock raiser whose life history we must now attempt to epitomize, was born in Garrard county, Kentucky, near the town of Danville, on April 10, 1848. When but an infant he was taken by his parents to Trenton, Missouri, and there he resided until 1862, when he came across the plains with the rest of the family to the vicinity of Wingville, Baker county. He assisted his father in farming and stock raising until 1869, then went to the state agriculture college at Corvallis, where he remained four years, graduating in the class of 1873. Upon receiving his degree he engaged in teaching, and for the ensuing decade and a half he followed this profession, having charge at different times of the schools at Wingville, Rye valley, Malheur City and in the vicinity of Boise, Idaho. In 1890 he located on a quarter section of land twelve miles northwest of Baker City, and he now has a very comfortable home and a fine, well improved farm, supplied with abundance of stock and with all kinds of buildings, farm machinery, implements, etc. He is among the most industrious and energetic agriculturists of his neighborhood, and one of its most esteemed citizens, his integrity and neighborly qualities rendering him popular with all. At present Mr. Ison is supervising the Nelson Mining Company irrigating ditch, in addition to managing his farm. The marriage of our subject was solemnized on October 31, 1877, the lady who then became his wife being Miss Mollie A., daughter of Price and Abigal (King) Fuller, and a native of Oregon. Their union has been blessed by the advent of one son, Grover Cleveland, now seventeen years old at home with his parents. Mr. Ison is interested in mining and owns three quartz claims. He gives a portion of each year to this industry and with a little more dvelopment he will have some fine producing properties. He is a charter member of the Queen City Camp, W. of W., of Baker City. Mrs. Ison's parents were natives of Ohio and crossed the plains in 1844 and located in Benton county, this state. When a small girl her mother died and she was raised by her uncle A. W. King, who now resides in Portland. He is owner of the street railway of that city and one of its wealthiest men, being rated at over one million dollars.
