He attended Fairfiew grade school and Morris, Twin Hills and Mannford High Schools where he excelled in basketball and won many area and state math awards. His senior year in high school he began his lifelong career with his brothers in the oil patch by using a team of mules to pull oil wells. This career was interrupted in 1942 when he began serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. Brady was stationed in Salina, Kan., where he met and married Imogene May Nily in Ottowa, Kan., March 18, 1946. After service in the Air Force, the couple returned to make their home in Mannford. He went to work with his brothers, Everett and Vernon Brady, in Brady Brothers Oil Well Servicing. In 1952, he moved his family to Cushing. In 1957, Brady Brothers built an office and yard off Little Street where it still remains. After branching out to Cushing, the company grew to 50 men working, pulling units, spudders, trucking and tank trucks. In 1964, Everett was bought out and Vernon and Joe began to cut the work force and concentrate on their own production. Vernon handled the office work and production around Cushing, Yale and Perry, while Joe handled the limited servicing and production from Cushing to Bristow, Kellyville and Prague. He always felt it was a privilege to work with such good men of great integrity. In 1980, he began a 22-year association with the American Breed Cattle Association. He served on the board of directors and as an officer. He had made many wonderful new friends as well as getting closer to old friends in raising the five way crossbreed cattle, which originated in Portales, New Mexico. However, throughout his entire life nothing was more important or came before his faith. Most people who knew Joe Brady knew him for what he was and who he served. He was a lifelong member of First Assembly of God Church in Cushing. He served there as a Sunday school teacher, a choir member and a deacon for over 40 years. He was a people person and loved sharing God's word and so became involved in Gideon's in 1967. He was an officer and speaker and distributed Bibles throughout Oklahoma. His greatest asset was Godly love. He attained great fortune spiritually, physically and financially, as a wonderful husband, father, uncle, brother and friend in the church, cattle and oil industry. His departure has left a void that no one can fill in the lives of his family and all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Brady was predeceased by four brothers, Everett, Austin, Vernon and Ovet Brady; two sisters, Lillian Brady and Viola Hughes; and one grandson, Christopher Oats. He is survived by his wife of the home Imogene, six children, Gene Brady and wife Sheila, Shellknob, Mo., Steve Brady, Shamrock, and Chuck Brady and wife Peggy, Cushing, daughters, Sandra Pound, Cushing, Cheryl Walling, Stillwater and Carol Redman and husband Tommy of Ada; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Warnie of Sasakwa; one sister, Helen Hoppes of Shamrock;. and numerous nieces and nephews.
