All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Opal Marie Elkins Opal Marie Elkins Services: Tues., Jan. 15, 1:30 p.m. Opal Marie Anderson was born December 26, 1914 in Howe, OK, to Charley Kelly and Mary Agnes Crane Anderson. She died January 10, 2002 in Fresno, Ca, at the age of 87. Mrs. Elkins spent her early years in LeFlore County, OK, moving to Sulpher, OK about 1926. The family moved to that location so the youngest daughter could attend the Oklahoma School for the Deaf. Mrs. Elkins first married Frank M. Grider in Pauls Valley, OK. They had two children. She later married Cecil Elkins and they had six children. She spent all of her adult life as a wife and mother. In the fall of 1941, the family moved to California, settling in McFarland. They raised their family there with all but one of the children attending local schools. A son, Kent attended the California School for the Deaf in Berkeley. Cecil died in 1973 and in 1975 Mrs. Elkins moved to Fresno, CA. Mrs. Elkins was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. And Mrs. C.K. Anderson; her husband Cecil Elkins; her siblings, Mrs. Flora Simco, Paul Anderson and Mrs. Irene ONeal; and two children. Agatha Oneita Elkins and Charles Duane Elkins. Surviving are six children; Rex M. Grider of Pineville, LA; Rebecca F. Greer of Fresno, CA; Gloria Locke of Firebaugh, CA; Mrs. Mina Jo Spears of Squaw Valley, CA; Cecil Kent Elkins of Coos Bay, OR; and Ms. Laverne Ducote of Delano, CA. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, January 14, 2002 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thomas-Robinson Funeral Home in Selma. Graveside funeral services will be held at the Delano District Cemetery in Delano, Ca. on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Nancy Hinds Hospice, 1416 W.
