Chilson TONKAWA - Truman J. Chilson, former Tonkawa resident, died at his home in Wellington, Kan., Tuesday, July 9, 1996. He was 74. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the McCafferty- Bolick Funeral Home chapel in Tonkawa. Chaplin Ron Keith of the Hospice of Wichita, will officiate. Burial of cremains will be in the Tonkawa IOOF Cemetery. A Vance Air Force Base Honor Guard will present the American Flag detail. Truman J. Chilson was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Breckenridge, the son of T.J. and Anna Belle (Smith) Chilson. He grew up and received his education in Lamont. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1939. On Nov. 16, 1941, he was married to Myrna June Area in Perry. During World War II, Chilson served in the African Theatre and in Italy. After his honorable discharge the family farmed for two years in western Oklahoma. In 1947, Chilson reentered the U.S. Air Force at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, where he was stationed for two years. He was then transferred to Alaska, then to various other bases during his 20 year career. Chilson retired from military service as a Master Sergeant on Sept. 1, 1963. He moved to Wellington, Kan., in May 1996. Survivors include his wife, Myrna, of the home in Wellington; one son, Truman John of Wellington; three daughters, Judith Ann Jakobsze of Weslaco, Texas, Sandra Lea Beck of Clearwater Fla., and Cathy Jo Young of Augusta, Kan.; one sister Addie Patton of Lamont; 11 grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Zoe Keith, Jo King and Eva Thomas. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wichita, c/o McCafferty- Bolick Funeral Home, 400 E.
